Next!
Okay. The next story in the Tales from the multiverse is _Planet Purple_, which most of you have seen. It's just capped off, since rael and Xen's part was done.

And I know I posted the unfinished _Rain of Fire_ that I need to finish next.

And then _Not Fallen_ which I will probably truncate to the point of orphaning Kevi and Damien's trip to Earth.

And I need to finish _Ghost_ which will be quiet the Disco case.

Any preferences for which order I inflict them on you?

Or I can keep nattering around on _Guardsman_. Poor Dave keeps being told about things, instead of getting out and doing them..I think I need to rewrite that last bit with Daveaccompanying Rael to Tyrant's World.

Regarding Guardsman, I know the common wisdom is "show don't tell", but considering Dave's circumstances, & the way his personality comes across, I think "tell" actually works, & it's not like you won't have to "show" when trouble occurs, the way you did with the earlier attempt on Nicholas.

As for the order of the others, I think, again, I would prefer to see from most to least complete, because that gives you more time for the less complete ones to percolate & develop.

I have a suggestion about what's causing the nattering. Feel free to ignore.

Many of my favourite characters in your books have periods when they are underestimated. We have great fun watching detractors get their comeuppance. Go Ebsa! Go Xen, you upstart bastard!

Lucky Dave doesn't have that kind of tension. There is no disconnect between expectations and delivery. People expect great things of him and he delivers every time. No ill wishers. Even his new power chromosome isn't causing him problems. He hasn't put a foot wrong.

I think he needs a bit more personal tension. I know he's a bit lost and distanced. That's the best part of him, but it's understated.

I wonder if that lack of intrapsychic tension and/or the lack of a nice grudgy personal enemy is what is causing the nattering? I want to see him fall in his ass in Rael's class. Is someone jealous of him? Does he have a rival for Qamar? Is he getting close to someone emotionally? So far it's been "hey, Lucky Dave, great to see you. Come and help us save the day, even though you're a thousand years out of date, no problem."

He's a bit like Jin Genero, the uncut wizard. At his best against overwhelming odds.

What do you think?

I've been following your blog for a while and loving it. But I never saw Rain of Fire. I've searched for not to no avail. Alas and alack!

I called it something else originally. I'll run through it, just to kick myself into finishing it.

I'd quite like your take on Lucky Dave talking to Lucky Dave. Good writing exercise too.
