Yes yes yes! Love the idea!

There was a recent photo of a hotel corridor with a floor carpet that appeared to have random dips and valleys in it which might make a great floor for the exhibit... nah, not the museum of fine art, they wouldn't do that, would they? I do like the displays, though. Nice reuse of existing art.

I have to buy picture from known sites to avoid problems with copyright infringement.

I've often wondered about using optical illusions on covers, but would they work for advertising? Signal the genre?

Good point. I did a quick search on google images for "optical illusion carpet in hotel" and found the one I had seen (on Facebook), but the image was from Reddit. Murky copyright... although there are a lot of optical illusion carpet images, even at least one from a carpet vendor!

As to what genre an optical illusion on the cover might signal... that's a tough call. I would think about using one as an eye-catcher, more than anything. Genre... mystery? Fantastic? I'm not sure how readers would interpret it. Might be worth asking the MGC crowd? They like talking about cover art.

I'll probably need to cover up a bit of that one.

Oh, wicked thought... A Warrior's Heart, with he in a contrasting color, so it could be read as A Warrior's Art, A Warrior's He Art, and of course, A Warrior's Heart. Or... you could leave it the way it is, it's good that way, too.

You've got to be careful, playing games with covers. What percentage will get it? And in the case of the Warrior's Heart, how many people would think it was a really bad cover for a romance.
mbarkermbarker on October 25th, 2018 04:10 am (UTC)
Oh... although grabbing a few readers out of the romances might not be bad. Except they would probably gripe about "It's not what I thought it was! One star..." Even if they enjoyed it!

Generally speaking, I like the art, and the overall design/layout, including the typography. My one minor quibble would be the angle of the paintings, which look slightly off, particularly the top edge of the one on the right.

This is after the earthquake shook the paintings hanging on the walls, so they are a little crooked...

This cover made me think of the character who criticizes Ra'd for painting his father as he last saw him.

How much will the value/importance of that painting change after Lucky Dave/Girl Trip & Nicholas is caught on camera dressed as he is in the painting?

The picture of Nicholas seems off somehow. I do like the juxtaposition of warriors past and present with Ebsa right next to him though. Perhaps there should be a plaque of Ebsa's accomplishments to prevent massive outrage though.

The plaque should note that the last time someone was outraged over him wearing green he took four soldiers down in about ten seconds without injuring any of them, although he did spank one of them with his green spatula.

Love it!

Don't listen to the knockers. A great cover with injokes. Love it the way it is. Nick should probably be a bit smaller to fix the wonkiness. But it's good to go as is. Honest. Makes me smile.
