Utterly brain fried from sleeping poorly for fear of the 3AM alarm not working. And flying. And somehow the time changes from west to East are always the hardest for me to deal with.

Anyhow, not writing, so I'm working on covers. Opionions?

It doesn't work as a thumbnail.

Unclear outline?

And almost like one of those trick images that can be seen as two different ones, depending.

It doesn't really match the cover of Dancer particularly well. It looks rather Victorian. Is that intentional?

What is the black area?

I keep hearing that my usual wide latin font is signaling "gothic" and that I need to change to a more fantasy signaling font. Beats the heck out of me.

I don't think it looks like an umbrella. With the ragged edge around the rest of the picture I think it looks like someone ripped it in half.

I'm not sure, but it seems the longer I look at it, the more it grows on me.

I didn't see it as an umbrella either. Are you set on the name as title? Shades of Dickens. Dirty Politics and ? What about something like Dances with the One? Dances Subtrifuge? (I kind of like the first because double meaning.)
I also always thought Rael, like all the others, was tanner skinned.

What if the umbrella were grey? So it had more contrast and shading? I know it's black in story, but it would be more obviously umbrella if it were less a black solid. Wasn't Sarah saying something about covers being signals, not illustrations, the other day at MGC?

_Rael_ is a basic, honest title. I _think_ that's a good thing.

I'm fooling with the details, including graying out the umbrella and showing the ribs. But it just may not work.

I always pictured her in a professional charcoal office tweed suit. The umbrella makes no sense for a person of her power. It would be like looking both ways before crossing the street when you can fly. Maybe if it was enchanted to repel bullets and lasers? I could see that.

Re: maybe
it's from a story I may have taken down by now. _Dirty Politics_ or _Just Following Orders_.

An umbrella blocks cameras above, and makes tracking a single person difficult in a crowd of people with mostly black umbrellas hustling along in a drizzle.

It'll be out right after _Embassy_ which also needs a cover.
