Genetics of Magic
Subject to change, on my whim. Red type, which probably doesn't show, is what Comet Fall has--just image the second set of whatever is red.

Cool!

So like Izzo is Dominant blonde, double gymnast, speed?

Rael has longevity & health and some cosmetic stuff and two mystery insertions?

Is that how to read it?

No. The insertions have up to 18 gene complexes on them. The versions vary by one or two gene complexes, generally where the private companies fiddled with the original patterns created by the first experiments, which were university based experiments.

Some of those variations are not widespread, as the rape genes were proprietary to the one company, which had not gone public with them yet, and _all_ those experiments were lost on a single world. The purple gene was the creation of one company, but it had gone public, and then been licensed to another company, so it is wide spread, and found to various degrees on all the Exile worlds.

What Rael got from Bran is indistinguishable from the normal 17 gene versions of insertion four, five, and six. I'll change the chart to say that CF has all the version, and not imply that having both versions of the purple gene does not imply that they don't have the non-purple version.

Okay, so what does Izzo mean?
matapampamuphoff on March 19th, 2015 04:59 pm (UTC)
Keep in mind that they've got up to twelve letters that their parents picked from for their names.

Izzo's got Dominate Blonde, two doses of "little girl gymnast" genes (Short and agile +Speed), and another, different Speed gene.

Most kids are named something close to their parent's names, or to honor a prominent relative. Occasionally (Ajha) they are named to not honor a known relative. In Ajha's case, he has two copies each of x and t. In the todo over his birth, his mother refused to name him anything close to his father Axti. It's very unusual to not use doubled letters, and a bit questionable whether she ought to have been allowed to use two a's, since he only has one. But the black Piont clan, as a whole has produced a lot of highly successful A's and Aj's and Ah's. Using them all is an indication of confidence in the child's potential.

Yes, I have all my characters all mapped out.

That is to say, you were right about Izzo, just wrong about Rael having mystery genes.

A few of her alleles of individual genes may be non-standard, but genes do mutate. Even a normal in-depth look at her genes wouldn't have raised any flags back when she was invited to attend the Princess school.

Any time now they will have enough Comet Fall genes analyzed (Ajha and company collected a bunch) that patterns of certain alleles will raise flags about possible CF origin.

Mystery to us, anyway, you don't have any associated traits marked down for 'a' and 'l'. At least that's how I read it.

Well I can't label them all, I may need something, sometime in the future, so even I don't know what is there. Yet.
